Laptop to go: Thief makes off with NYC retirees’ info from Korean restaurant

What happened? A thief stole a laptop belonging to a consultant for the New York City Financial Information Services Agency. The device was stolen from Kang Suh, a Korean restaurant in midtown Manhattan.

How many victims? As many as 280,000 city retirees.

What kind of personal information? Names, addresses, Social Security numbers and pension amounts.

What was the response? The agency plans to contact all affected people.

Details: The agency is determining whether the information was encrypted.
