Marriott’s Vicky Ames to discuss the role of regulations in IT security at RiskSec NY

Vicky Ames, the director of IT security and security risk management at Marriott International, will be participating in a keynote panel entitled “The Trump Effect on Information Security," at RiskSec NY on May 2.

The day-long event, to be held at Convene in midtown Manhattan, is SC Media's new threat intelligence and risk management gathering for cybersecurity industry leaders.

Ames's panel will be looking at how the new administration is doing on its promise of an environment of reduced regulation and oversight. She says she will be focusing on the role of regulations in IT security and providing suggestions on how to provide adequate security for organizations in light of the Trump administration's appetite to reduce regulations.

She says she can't know where the panel discussion will venture, but her thought is that regardless of the regulatory environment, organizations will still have to identify how to provide adequate protection of their IT resources.

"I think we will have a lively discussion and I hope to provoke thought rather than only draw conclusions," says Ames (left).

Vicky Ames has been working in IT for over 20 years, most of which has been focused exclusively on information security. She is currently a director, IT security, security risk management at Marriott International focused on enhancing the organization.  Prior to this she was leading the information security efforts at Emergent Bio Solutions, MedImmune and the National Institutes of Health. She is a published author and frequently requested speaker on IT security and it risk management topics.

And, she had high praise for SC. "I was fortunate enough to participate on a healthcare panel for SC a few years ago," Ames says. "SC brings together leaders to have frank conversations about the challenges organizations face and more importantly to share knowledge and experience so people can bring solutions back to their organizations rather than marketing materials."

"I hope to provoke thought rather than only draw conclusions."
