Back again this year at SC World Congress Data Security Conference and Expo is the SC Magazine Security Innovators Throwdown.
Organized to prove that innovation is far from dying in the information security marketplace, the competition gives leading start-ups a chance to showcase their new ideas, plans and technologies to address today's data security needs.
As 10 young companies are given a limited time to present their cases for being the most innovative, a judging panel comprised of industry experts and venture capitalist (VC) representatives will assess the vendors' business plans, whether their offerings tackle today's security challenges and more to choose the most innovative among the bunch.
The winner and finalists will then be featured in a future edition of SC Magazine. Just as important, with VCs represented on both the panel and in the audience, contenders potentially could catch the eye of investors, gaining monetary support to advance their young companies even further. Becky Bace, president and CEO of industry consultancy Infidel and a long-standing former VC, who also is one of the Throwndown judges, said the event is a crucial happening for the information security space.
“The stress placed on seed-stage firms by the economy of the past couple of years is considerable,” she said. “I think it is important to celebrate and give visibility to those brave entrepreneurial souls who continue to work on new products and services for the security market.”
Along with Bace, other judges on the panel include Greg Bell, principal of KPMG; Robert Rodriguez, founder and president of the Security Innovators Forum; Simone Seth, senior researcher with the Information Security Forum; Peter Stephenson, technology editor with SC Magazine; Elad Yoran, CEO of Security Growth Partners; and Illena Armstrong, Editor-in-Chief of SC Magazine.
Finalists chosen from applicants who submitted to participate in the event will be made public in the SC World Congress program, along with a schedule of the company presentations. The Throwdown is among a number of high-value keynotes and other educational sessions making up the annual conference and expo, which is taking place in New York City at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers November 10 and 11. Finalists will be making their presentations to the panel of judges over both days of the Congress, which attendees of the conference and expo will be able to watch.
