Staples names Wahlin as the company’s first CISO

The office superstore chain Staples today named its first ever CISO tapping Brett Wahlin for the spot.

Wahlin, who previously was vice president and CISO of Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, will report to Chief Technology Officer Faisal Masud who heads the retailer's new Digital Solutions segment. In this newly created position Wahlin will handle not only the usual cybersecurity tasks, but also  several not normally not assigned to a CISO, such as product development connected devices, fraud and loss prevention, Staples said.

“Brett has nearly 30 years of experience leading large enterprise information security architecture, policy, operations and development,” said Masud. “The security of both our customers' and Staples' data is critical, and we'll look to Brett to bring his knowledge of the latest security standards and best practices to the role, as we continue to evolve into a digital-first company.”

Wahlin also has worked for Sony Network Entertainment and McAfee and he began his career as a counterintelligence agent for the U.S. Army.
