What happened? Investigators found the names and Social Security numbers of 561,126 taxpayers while reviewing a copy of the device. The backup had been thought to contain the personal information of 64,000 state employees and 225,000 taxpayers.
What was the response? Affected residents will be notified on how they can sign up for identity theft protection.
Quote: “We continue to believe – I believe with good cause – that it is highly unlikely that the data on the stolen device has been accessed,” said Gov. Ted Strickland.
