Security giant McAfee has added another weapon to its arsenal, announcing today it is acquiring compliance enforcement and vulnerability remediation provider Citadel Security Software.
The deal, valued at $56 million and expected to close in the fourth quarter of this year, will make the Santa Clara, Calif.-based McAfee a player in the emerging risk management space.
"This acquisition will help us develop the next generation of real-world security risk management solutions that customers are demanding," Kevin Weiss, McAfee president, said in a statement today. "With the addition of Citadel, we can offer our customers the major components of vulnerability assessment, policy compliance enforcement and remediation, building on our suite of existing products…"
Analysts said the deal makes sense, especially for organizations mandated to efficiently respond to audits in a timely manner.
"We believe we can considerably extend the market for Citadel's solutions by leveraging McAfee's 45 million desktops under management...," said Steven Solomon, chairman and CEO at Citadel, which has sold 4.5 million licensed devices.
A McAfee representative could not be reached for comment today to provide additional details.
