Fortinet’s FortiGate 601E is a next-generation firewall that provides high performance, multi-layered validated security and granular visibility for end-to-end protection across an enterprise. With scalable performance and ultra-low latency, it simplifies and automates distributed enterprise operations. Security capabilities include inspecting deep into SSL encrypted traffic, continuous threat intelligence updates and automated mitigation to keep organizations protected from advanced cyberattacks.
This dedicated appliance is installed as a security enforcement device in an IP network that reduces the complexity and cost of ownership as well as supports scalable deployments at the network edge, data center, internal segments and distributed branches. Processes offered are Firewall VPN, App Control, Intrusion Prevention, Anti-virus, URL filtering, sandboxing and SSL Inspection. FortiGate provides comprehensive threat protection powered by Security Processor (SPU) and the FortiGuard Labs Security Efficacy. The purpose-built SPU delivers higher performance, less latency, less spacey and less power consumption by using parallel path processing architecture that helps facilitate the best performance without degradation of multiple services. Automation and visibility reduce the need for manual operations and reduce complexity by providing automated traffic visibility into a company’s applications.
Fortinet threat research includes analysis of malware, URLs, current trends and zero days. Development is backed by an antivirus engine, an intrusion prevention engine and signature development. The solution leverages emerging technologies to provide innovative features like the automation of analyst tasks.
FortiSandbox uncovers zero-day attacks as well as those hidden in encrypted traffic. Unknown objects are automatically submitted for sandboxing. The solution offers automated firewall policy enforcement. We have always liked the FortiOS dashboard, which is synonymous across the company’s products and laid out logically. Just hover over a device’s hostname and the top bar includes all the information on that device. A crosshair icon displays FortiOS in full screen mode and hides the category menu to the left. This is a useful feature for displaying information on a large screen to monitor the widgets that matter to an organization. You can move, remove and add widgets and create different dashboards.
Support offerings include phone, email and web-based options. Availability for these are offered at 8/5, or 24/7 days a week for approximately 15-20 percent of the product price per year. An FAQ can be found online
