We were able to install and configure the virtual appliance within just a few minutes. The tool secures file transfers by controlling email attachments through an SMTP relay, as well as providing HTTPS access to the web server for file retrieval. The underlying storage of the server is encrypted as well.
Using the product is very easy and straightforward. The solution can be managed from a web browser, and typical operational tasks have to be configured. All in all, the solution provides a centralized mechanism for securing file transfers using HTTPS or by an agent that works within Microsoft Outlook to secure file attachments as they are sent to single users or groups of users. The virtual appliance offers the ability to customize the look and feel of the web server, as well as granular operational items, such as logging, reporting, LDAP integration and other features. The product even helps to ensure the integrity of files through a native anti-virus mechanism. We also noted a dashboard view that allows users to view how many files have been sent and the equivalent CO2 emissions saved by transferring them electronically rather than using snail mail. We were impressed with the ease of use and the features included with the appliance, including some of the localization options.
Documentation is available as separate PDF downloads, which also are linked directly from the appliance. The information is very detailed and helpful.
Both eight-hours-a-day/five-days-a-week and 24/7 phone and email support are available through Accellion. The cost of the product is based solely on the users, and there is no cost involved for the virtual appliance. The Accellion website has a customer portal for online ticket submission, a knowledge base and FAQs.
