The ACTAtek Combination Model is a Linux, web-based biometrics and RFID smart card system for access control, time attendance and payroll systems. ACTAtek is SSL-encrypted with all software and hardware built into the system. It can be used in a standalone mode without the need of a dedicated architecture, but it can also be used in conjunction with existing infrastructure. Network support from the TCP/IP networking protocol allows ACTAtek to be operated in a multiple device environment. The tool supports all legacy card-based systems and provides immediate integration with a company's IT and security systems. It also provides a software development kit (SDK) for third-party application integration via SOAP, SNMP and LDAP support.

We found this device to be very easy to install, deploy and use. We were a little thrown off by the simple installation at first, as the device did not come with software of any kind. With this product, there are no servers or clients to configure. All the device configuration is done by simply going to the web interface via a web browser. To set up the device, all we had to do was give it an IP address on our test network via the key pad and we were up and running. User enrollment is also done directly on the device by an administrator. It too only consists of a few simple steps. After a user is enrolled, more information can be added to the user's profile via the easy-to-use web GUI.

The documentation provided with this product included a paper quick installation guide, as well as several PDF manuals on a CD.
ACTAtek provides 24/5 live support online, as well as email and phone support. There is also a support area on the website that includes technical documentation, an FAQ section and an online glossary.

At a price just under $1,400 per unit, we find this product to be an excellent value for the money. It combines many great features in one easy-to-use and simple-to-administer device.
