The NetPilot appliance is simple to set up – you just plug it in and turn it on. It has clearly labelled ports for all network connections.
Once booted, the appliance begins its own automatic configuration, which can be changed to fit the specific needs of the network via an easy-to-use web interface. This can be accessed from anywhere on the network, and once the user is logged in, all functions are there at the touch of a button.
The interface is broken down into categories such as security, user accounts, email filter policy, logs and maintenance. These then lead to sub-categories with policy settings, configurations and many different logs and charts.
NetPilot is packed with features, including a built-in firewall, VPN, email filtering, URL and web filters, IDS, file and print servicing, intranet and web page caching, not to mention a range of log and reporting options.
The appliance provides amazing functionality and performance. All its features integrate seamlessly together to make it an excellent choice as a multi-function box. It also features easy-to-read logs with different charts and graphs.
There is plenty of useful documentation. All manuals are split into different areas of installation and configuration. A get started guide outlines initial setup and deployment, while others explain how to set up the device’s features.
There are many support options on offer. Equiinet’s website has a resources area that includes datasheets, whitepapers, and case studies, and a support area with phone and email support. Product updates can also be found here, but NetPilot will automatically update itself when new material becomes available.
With a reasonably small price tag, low maintenance and free updates, NetPilot is excellent value for SMEs or branch offices. It works by itself or with others, and an enterprise version is available for larger organisations.
