The Hitachi ID Management Suite v8.2.1 contains several identity management components that are well integrated to form a fairly comprehensive suite. The package includes Hitachi ID Identity Manager, which features tools to automate user access to resources; Password Manager, which allows for password synchronization across the enterprise; and Privileged Access Manager, which manages access to privileged accounts; along with added functionality from Group Manager and Access Certification.
We found this product to be easy to install and configure. The initial installation is done by launching the installer software on a Windows Server and following the installation wizard. This wizard not only helps install the software itself, but also connects to the backend database required for Identity Manager to run. After installation is complete, all further configuration and management is done through the web-based administrative consoles, which - with its intuitive layout - we found easy to navigate.
This suite is quite comprehensive and includes many easy-to-use features that integrate well into the enterprise environment. For instance, Identity Manager allows for full automation of on-boarding or deleting user accounts by scanning HR applications for changes and then provisioning those changes throughout Active Directory and other applications. Aside from user provisioning, this suite also includes integrated features for user self-service password management and requests to access resources. While this suite contains several components that can work individually from each other, we find them to integrate well together and to be quite simple to manage collectively. This solution also features dozens of native connectors to servers, applications and platforms ensuring full integration with almost any environment.
Documentation was comprised of PDF manuals and quick-start guides. Some of the manuals provided included installation, configuration and quick-start guides for all the various components of the suite. Overall, we found all documentation to be easy to follow and to include clear step-by-step configuration instructions. We would have liked to see a few more visuals throughout the various guides, but found the amount of screen shots and visuals to be adequate.
Hitachi ID offers 17/5 phone, email, fax and remote technical aid through a support and maintenance agreement at a cost of 20 percent of the license price per year. This support also includes access to updates and upgrades and access to an online customer support portal.
At a price starting at $25 per user (10,000 users) for the whole suite, we find this offering to be an excellent value for the money. While the price may seem a little steep on the surface, we find the Hitachi ID Management Suite to include a comprehensive identity and access management feature set that offers full integration with a large variety of platforms that may be already deployed throughout the existing infrastructure. This tool provides a plug-and-play identity management solution right out of the box allowing for deployment in almost any type of enterprise.
