We found this product to be fairly easy to setup and manage. Setup is done via the web-based GUI and is comprised of several manual steps, which take some time and leave room for error or a missed step. We would have liked a setup wizard. However, the GUI is quite intuitive and simple to navigate.
This device offers solid protection through its highly comprehensive policy engine. This engine can filter based on number schemes, such as Social Security numbers, as well as pre-defined dictionaries.
The appliance also enforces regulatory compliance standards, such as HIPAA, SOX or GLBA. The filter can also look inside attachments, which add an extra layer of protection.
Policy can be applied using integration directly with Active Directory by making use of the already defined group and user structure.
This tool comes with several PDF manuals, some of which are very specific, specialized guides on particular configurations. The two main manuals are the getting started guide and the administrator guide. The getting started guide details all the steps needed to get the appliance up and running in the network, while the administrator guide goes into in-depth management of policies and features. Both guides have many screen shots and configuration examples.
SonicWALL offers two levels of subscription-based support, 8/5 and 24/7. Both levels include email and phone support, as well as signature and threat updates. Web-based support with a knowledge base as well as product documentation and information is also available.
