Reviews from our expert team
The WebTitan offers protection against many malware-based threats – including viruses, spyware and phishing – in one soft appliance. The WebTitan can be deployed in a physical appliance using an ISO or installed within VMware, which provides a great amount of deployment flexibility.
We chose to download and burn the ISO to a CD and install it on our physical server. We found installation of the product to be simple and straightforward. After the software was installed, the appliance had to be configured from scratch, but now with the use of setup wizards. We like the use of setup wizards to ensure nothing is left unconfigured and we found configuring the product overall to be simple and straightforward. All administration is done via an intuitive and easy-to-use web GUI, and we found it was easy administering the appliance.
The WebTitan has a lot of policy flexibility as users and groups can be imported directly from Active Directory or LDAP for easy policy assignment. This policy control combined with solid malware protection, web filtering and application control, make this product a solid performer.
Documentation includes quick-start and administration guides. The quick-start guide details the steps necessary to get the appliance up and running in the network, while the administration guide focuses on setting up users and policies, as well as feature configuration. Both of these guides include many screen shots and step-by-step instructions that are easy to follow.
WebTitan offers full support included in the license fee. Technical support via phone is available 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST Monday through Friday, and email support is available 24/7. The website also features a knowledge base and user forum, as well as documentation downloads.
At a price of $850 per year for up to 50 users, this product may seem like a steal, but that is before the addition of extra hardware – unless the product is going to be deployed using VMware. However, we find that it does have a nice feature set and rate it as a good value for the money.
