Massachusetts-based Tufts Health Plan is notifying roughly 8,830 current and former Tufts Medicare Preferred members that their personal information – including Social Security numbers – was stolen.

What happened? Federal officials alerted Tufts Health Plan of the incident as part of an ongoing investigation.
What was the response? Impacted or not, all Tufts Medicare Preferred members are being notified and offered a free year of credit monitoring services. Impacted members are being offered identity theft protection services, as well. Tufts Health Plan is taking measures to ensure a similar incident does not occur.
Details: The incident was not the result of an electronic breach, IT system vulnerability, or hacking.
