Following hacks, State Democrats warned Wikileaks may be a source of infection

September 20, 2016

The Association of State Democratic Chairs sent an email last week to its members advising them to avoid searches on Wikileaks as a precaution against malware infection, especially after several state officials had their accounts hacked, Politico has reported.

“A number of chairs and state parties have been victims of hacks and impersonation recently,” read the email, which cautioned that Wikileaks could be a potential infection vector because certain files within the site's data dumps may contain malware. Wikileaks had published its latest collection of leaked Democratic National Committee documents just prior to the warning.

The email's author, Raymond Buckley, president of the Association of State Democratic Chairs, also posted on Facebook that his Twitter and Facebook accounts were recently tampered with and that three other Democratic state chairs had their emails hacked, Politico further reported.
