Authorities nab WireLurker masterminds

Beijing police have arrested the three masterminds behind the WireLurker malware aimed at Apple users in China, according to a report on

WireLurker is a new family of malware targeting OS X and iOS systems. WireLurker was first observed infecting OS X systems when users would download one of trojanized apps from the Maiyadi App Store. Next, WireLurker would compromise iOS devices that connected to the infected OS X system via USB.

For jailbroken iOS devices, WireLurker looked for certain popular iOS apps on the device and repackaged them with malware, 

Chinese authorities arrested the three men — identified only as Li,  Chen and Wang — after receiving a tip from Qihoo 360, the security company that tracked the malware to “Maiyadi,” a Chinese forum.
