Most common passwords of 2014 released; ‘123456’ tops list, again

Again this year, in a pool of more than 3 million leaked passwords, “123456” and “password” topped the list of the most popular passwords.

Rounding out the list of the top five most popular passwords was “12345,” “12345678,” and “qwerty.” SplashData compiled its list from leaked data throughout the year, the company's press release says. Other passwords in the top 10 included “dragon” and “football.”

Although multiple passwords have shown up on the company's list for years, “696969” and “batman” made it onto the list of the 25 most popular passwords for the first time.

Most of the analyzed passwords came from users in North America and Western Europe. Also notably this year, “iloveyou” fell off the top 25 list.

Common first names, including “michael,” “jennifer,” and “thomas” also placed in the top 50.
