Chaffetz, Cummings ask SSA for complete OIG report, pen test results

House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) and ranking member Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) asked Social Security Administration Acting Commissioner Carolyn Colvin to hand over the unredacted version of a penetration testing recently done at the agency.

A report by the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) found the agency ripe for a breach due to the nature of the information  – sensitive data on most U.S. citizens -- the SSA handles. “Inappropriate and unauthorized access to, or theft of, this information can result in significant harm and distress to potentially hundreds of millions of Americans,The Hill quoted the report as saying.

Penetration tests would have exposed vulnerabilities. Chaffetz and Cummings want Colvin to deliver the information by May 10.
