Github publishes first transparency report

Github received 10 requests for user data in 2014 and at least partially complied with 70 percent of them.

In its first transparency report, released Thursday, the company also disclosed that the 10 requests impacted 40 accounts, and of the requests with which the company complied, 43 percent of users were provided notice.

All 10 requests were subpoenas, and 60 percent pertained to criminal investigations.

Sticking with current law, Github reported receiving between zero and 249 National Security Order requests, which includes National Security Letters (NSLs).

The company also received 258 takedown notices under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). Every complete DMCA takedown notice has personal information redacted and is posted to the company's public repository.
