Rep. Jackie Speier(D-Calif.) today introduced the Intimate Privacy Protection Act, or revenge porn bill, that will make it a crime to knowingly distribute sexually explicit images of someone without their consent.

The bipartisan bill is co-sponsored by Reps. Katherine Clark (D-Mass.), Ryan Costello (R-Penn.), Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.), and Thomas Rooney (R-Fla.) calls for a prison sentence of up to five years for those who share who share nonconsensual pornography, also known as revenge porn, and the online predators who profit from the further distribution of such images. The bill is also supported by the Cyber Civil Rights Initiative.

This bill has been in the works for over a year and was originally slated to be introduced last summer, but a source told SC Magazine that Speier held back in order to garner bipartisan support, a necessity considering the fractious of Congress.
