Miss Teen USA hacker sentenced to 18 months in federal prison

A 20-year-old California college student who hacked into at least 150 online accounts, including those of a former Miss Teen USA, was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison earlier this week.

Jared James Abrahams pleaded guilty to one count of computer hacking and three counts of extortion in November, according to a court press release. Abrahams used software to take control of victims' emails, social media accounts and computers, which let him remotely turn on their webcams and capture nude photos.

Once in control, he then threatened to publicly post the photos on their accounts, unless the victims sent additional photos or Skyped with him for at least five minutes while doing whatever he instructed.

Some of the affected women were teenagers, including one who was 16.
