Suspected SilverTerrier cybercrime gang leader arrested

Interpol has disclosed that a Nigerian man suspected to be the leader of the SilverTerrier cybercrime group, also known as TMT, has been apprehended by the Nigerian Police Force as part of a year-long coordinated international effort, according to The Hacker News."

The suspect is alleged to have run a transnational cybercrime syndicate that launched mass phishing campaigns and business email compromise schemes targeting companies and individual victims," said Interpol. Palo Alto Networks' Unit 42 threat intelligence unit noted that the suspected SilverTerrier has been active for the past seven years and has helped develop more than 240 domains, 50 of which have been used for malware command-and-control services. The suspect had also worked to evade arrest, even attempting the sale of a luxury vehicle for nearly $14,000, added Unit 42, which also helped in the arrest.

The suspect's apprehension comes after the arrest of 11 members earlier this year, as well as the detainment of three others in November 2020.
