Emeil Stewart, 18, admitted to posting the anonymous message after he said he overheard two students talk about shooting up the school, a police report said. He told police he was unsure of the threat's validity so he didn't contact authorities. Instead, he lied in the post and said that a friend sent him a picture of a gun and told him there would be a shooting to gauge people's reactions.
Stewart then deleted the post. He turned himself after students reported the post to the police. Stewart was not arrested after an investigation found there was no imminent threat.
FAU Police Chief Charles Lowe called Stewart's actions a mistake and “clearly a hoax” during a press conference.
