Hillary Clinton used personal email for State business


Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton used a personal email account rather than a government provided email account.

Under the Federal Records Act, government officials' emails are seen as records and are to be stored on department servers, which Clinton's were not, according to a report in the New York Times. In her four years at the State Department Clinton used her personal exclusively, a fact that emerged after the agency began trying to comply with the act and asked her to provide her emails for archiving.

Her aides handed over more than 50,000 pages of emails. So far, there is no word on whether communications in Clinton's private email account were encrypted or subjected to other security measures.
