Secretary of State John Kerry told CBS Evening News Tuesday that “it's very likely” that Chinese and Russian governments are reading his emails and that he writes all of emails with that in mind.
Kerry's remarks were made in response to a question concerning recent cyber attacks. Kerry also said that cyber world that we live in is pretty much the “Wild West.”
“Unfortunately we're living in a world where a number of countries, the Chinese and Russians included, have consistently been engaged in cyber attacks against American interests,” Kerry said.
A number of cyber assaults that have occurred during the year are believed to be state sponsored, including breaches experienced by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and the Pentagon's Joint Staff unclassified email system.
