Officials: Nakasone leadership at NSA, Cyber Command extended

National Security Agency and U.S. Cyber Command Chief Gen. Paul Nakasone is expected to have his term extended for another year, said two senior defense officials to The Record, a news site by cybersecurity firm Recorded Future. Since his appointment in 2018, Nakasone has cemented the NSA's ethical hacker status and has been part of issuing cybersecurity alerts along with other federal agencies, as well as enabled the Cyber Command to practice "persistent engagement" against foreign cybersecurity threats. "As I look at the command today, four years into it, I see a command with much greater capabilities, a command that has been able to utilize its capacity authorities and outcomes in a series of different, very significant events for our nation," said Nakasone at Vanderbilt Universitys Summit on Modern Conflicts and Emerging Threats. However, Nakasone did not comment on queries regarding the extension of his role at the NSA and Cyber Command.
