ALPHV/BlackCat ransomware attack against Casepoint under investigation

U.S. legal discovery tech service provider Casepoint has launched a probe into a possible cyberattack following claims by the ALPHV/BlackCat ransomware operation purporting the theft of 2TB of sensitive data from the firm, according to TechCrunch. Stolen Casepoint data leaked by ALPHV/BlackCat include an internal document allegedly from the FBI, a legal document, a government-issued ID, and sensitive health details from a hospital in Georgia, as well as login information for its internal systems. While Casepoint did not have its operations disrupted by the intrusion, incident response protocols have already been enabled by the company on May 30, while a third party has been sought to monitor for further malicious activity, said Casepoint co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Vishal Rajpara, who did not provide additional details regarding the accessed and exfiltrated data, as well as negotiations with ALPHV/BlackCat. Such an intrusion comes after the ransomware operation's attack against Amazon's security camera firm Ring.
