Dallas ransomware recovery nearly completed

Ninety percent of systems in Dallas that have been impacted by a Royal ransomware attack last month were noted by city officials to have been restored, StateScoop reports. Numerous other city systems have been recovered following the restoration of its computer-aided dispatch system in the middle of May, including its municipal courts and utility payments, as well as its animal shelter's appointment scheduling system, according to city officials. However, significant damage from the intrusion remains at the Dallas Public Library, which continues to have most of its branch computer terminals and online catalog offline, while manual workarounds persist at the city's fire and police departments, as well as its animal shelter. Dallas has noted the adoption of more stringent cybersecurity measures as it continues to deal with the aftermath of the attack. "We continue to work with our cybersecurity experts on additional steps to further enhance our security posture, including implementing additional cybersecurity software, deploying a system-wide reset across all user accounts, expediting the implementation of additional controls, and completely rebuilding impacted systems in a new, secure environment," said officials.
