Stronger ICS/OT cybersecurity sought by new MITRE group

MITRE and the Cybersecurity Manufacturing Innovation Institute are co-chairing a new special interest group aimed at strengthening industrial control system and operational technology cybersecurity, reports SecurityWeek. Government, academic, and industry representatives, as well as ICS/OT vulnerability researchers, OEM representatives, engineers, infrastructure vendors, system integrators, and asset owners and operators, could take part in the new SIG, which has been supported by both the Homeland Securitys Systems Engineering and Development Institute and Department of Energys Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response. "The work done by the Securing Energy Infrastructure Executive Task Force to develop new categories of security vulnerabilities that are focused on ICS and distinct from existing IT vulnerability categories has begun to fill an important gap. CWE and CAPEC are at the forefront of classifying security weaknesses and common attack patterns within cyber-physical systems. The SIG represents a powerful opportunity to advance the state of the practice in identifying, classifying, and mitigating security weaknesses in both energy and other critical infrastructure sectors," said CESER Director Puesh Kumar.
