Encryption is complicated and “pretty misunderstood,” Miller Newton, president and CEO at PKWare, told SCMagazine.com Monday at a National Cyber Security Alliance conference held at Nasdaq.
As the Internet of Things (IoT) explodes and hackers are persistent in their pursuit of targets, encryption becomes even more important. But it's not an easy sell.
The hard part of encrypting is not the algorithms but rather the user experience. If encryption is to become widespread unless companies are “cognizant of no change in the user workflow or experience.”
Newton warned that users should always keep devices and apps updated so they don't miss security patches –and take steps to segregate certain devices on a “guest” network.
