Los Angeles announces its first Cyber Intrusion Command Center

November 4, 2013

America's second-largest city, Los Angeles, has announced the creation of its first ever Cyber Intrusion Command Center, intended to combat threats aimed at city services.

Reuters reported that warnings of potential preeminent cyber attacks, by President Barack Obama and National Intelligence Director James Clapper earlier this year, incited Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti to issue an executive directive ordering the creation of the task force.

The command center will be staffed by cyber security experts that will focus on protecting different aspects of the city's operations, from traffic systems to critical infrastructure such as the port and airport. When it comes to the latter, Garcetti told Reuters that he knows the essential services are “top targets.”
