Austrian officials investigate attempted cyberattack of Vienna’s airport

Austria's Interior Ministry is reportedly investigating a hacking group known as ‘Aslan Neferler Tim' that has claimed responsibility for an attempted cyberattack of Vienna's airport.

The hacking group, also known as 'Lion Soldiers Team,' announced this weekend that the group attacked the airport in response to the “racism” of airport officials, according to a Google translation of the Turkish-language tweet.

The tweet referred to an incident involving a grounded flight in which officials declined to issue emergency visas to a group of Turkish nationals, requiring the group to stay overnight in the airport, the Associated Press reported.

Authorities said attackers were unable to gain access to the airport's information and failed to bring down the website, according to Austrian local reports.

In May, FACC Operations GmbH, an Austrian aircraft parts manufacturer, fired its CEO after the company lost €40.9 million ($45.95 million) to a BEC (business email compromise) attack.
