Employee data leaks often unreported

Businesses reported that they are experiencing regular employee data leakages but 45% would not want to notify the public regarding such events, TechRadar reports.

Kaspersky researchers found that 12% of businesses disclosed employee data leakages after being discovered by the media.

Moreover, 85% of data leakage incidents were attributed to "the human factor," indicating lapses among both employees and employers.

Employers could curb exposure of employee data by strengthening worker data security and offering cybersecurity training, but less than 50% have been doing so, according to the report.

The findings should prompt organizations to establish comprehensive crisis plans and communicate properly during such incidents to avoid further fallout, according to Kaspersky Executive Vice President of Corporate Business Evgeniya Naumova.

Corporate communications professionals and IT security teams should collaborate to exchange information on cybersecurity insights and determine guides, tools, channels, and language that might be helpful to accurately handle both internal and external communications in case of an emergency," said Naumova.
