Three-peat for UCF in college cyber challenge

For the third year in a row, The University of Central Florida has come out on top in the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition, according to USA Today College.

The event, now in its 11th year, was held last weekend in San Antonio, Texas. Ten finalist teams, whittled down from a field of 180 which earned a spot during 10 U.S. regional contests, faced off in real-life hacking challenges fending off cyber attacks. Skills were applied in detection and response, maintaining the viability of networks, being responsive to business requests, and balancing defense and business requirements.

“It's an exciting event because it puts the students into real-world IT cybersecurity scenarios,'” said Jack Harrington, vice president of cyber business at Raytheon, which sponsored  the event.

The champion UCF team is scheduled to meet with research and national security cyber experts in Washington, D.C., as well as visit the White House.
