As the Internet of Things (IoT) comes to bear, companies must bake security into their products to building trust with customers and business partners, Anthony Grieco, principal engineer and director of the Cisco Security and Trust Organization, recently told SCMagazine.com.
The IoT is ushering in a growing number of smart devices and is prompting an explosion of data that must be secured. Grieco called trust “foundational” to cybersecurity, stressing the two are interrelated.
“Historically people have had implicit trust,” he explained. But Grieco and others like him are now promoting the notion of explicit trust, or “thinking about why you trust something,” he said.
