Ransomware recovery confidence lacking among most orgs

TechRepublic reports that 67% of IT decision makers worldwide expressed concern regarding their inability to recover data compromised by ransomware and other cyberattacks, according to Dell’s 2021 Global Data Protection Index.

The survey showed that 82% agreed that their current data protection measures will no longer be suitable for their businesses’ future needs and 62% said that current data protection measures are inadequate against ransomware and malware threats. Meanwhile, 30% and 45% encountered data loss and unplanned downtime, respectively, during the past 12 months.

Dell also showed that 74% of respondents associated remote working spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic with increased attack surface, while 63% attributed growing data protection risks to cloud-native apps, machine learning and other emerging technologies, but the pandemic has also prompted significantly increased emerging technology investments.

”While ransomware attacks can be devastating for people and businesses, accepting defeat as a foregone conclusion is not the answer,” said Dell Infrastructure Solutions Group President and General Manager Jeff Boudreau.
