Twenty New Jersey middle and high school students face third degree invasion of privacy charges in a “sexting” investigation after authorities discovered nude photos of female students were being exchanged among male students via text and social media.
One of the students, who was 18 years old at the time, will be charged as an adult while the rest while be charged as minors.
The investigation started on May 23, 2015 after Lower Cape May Regional School District officials learned that the photos were being passed around.
Official notified authorities and an investigation into the matter led to the confiscation of 27 cell phones. If convicted, the adult student could face up to five years in prison while the minors face a maximum penalty of two years.
