Senate subcomittee to discuss cybersecurity issues

The Senate Subcommittee on Emerging Threats will meet today to hear testimony on cybersecurity from Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Cyber Command representatives.

The closed April 19 meeting will feature Lt. General James K. McLaughlin, U.S. Air force and deputy commander, U.S. Cyber Command and Thomas Atkin, acting assistant secretary of defense for homeland defense and global security offering testimony on budgetary requests for fiscal year 2017 and the Future Years Defense Program. The latter gives Congress a look at what funding might be required for future Defense Department projects.

The subcommittee is chaired by Sen. Deb –Fischer (R-NE) with Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) as the ranking Democratic member and is responsible for policies and programs related to cyber security, intelligence, counter-terrorism, and homeland security.
