Websites redirect Congressional users to protest page, groups call for end of surveillance

In a protest against renewing or reforming the Section 215 authorizations of the USA PATRIOT Act that allows virtually unbridled government surveillance, 14,000 websites are redirecting visitors with Internet protocol (IP) addresses emanating from Congress toward a protest page.

The page contains naked photos submitted by activists protesting NSA surveillance, according to a release from the online activist group leading the protest, called Fight for the Future. The protest hit at nearly the same time that a coalition of companies, industry and trade groups and privacy organizations sent a letter to Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Sen. Harry Reid, D-Utah, urging the Senate not to consider passing the FISA Improvements Act, “which would leave Section 215 of the PATRIOT Act unchanged for two years,” or the FISA Restoration and Reform Act.
