“Revenge porn” sites on radar of New York lawmakers

Lawmakers in New York wish to take a similar stance to California on “revenge porn” – making it illegal for individuals to humiliate former flames by posting their nude photos online.

So far, Republican Sen. Phil Boyle has drafted a bill that penalizes the behavior with up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Another legislator, Democratic Assemblyman Francisco Moya, introduced an even tougher bill – which would punish disgruntled posters with up to four years in prison, the New York Daily News reported on Tuesday in its politics blog.

Boyle reportedly said he is open to joining forces with Moya to pass the toughest penalties possible for offenders. Moya also drafted another bill which would allow victims to more easily have embarrassing photos removed from revenge porn sites via civil litigation.
