Whole-disk encryption tool TrueCrypt might be resurrected less than a week after the site's developers announced they would stop maintaining the software.
Two Swiss developers launched a follow-up site based on TrueCrypt's original code late last week and are now offering downloads of TrueCrypt's 7.1a product, according to technology blogger Graham Cluley.
Thomas Bruderer and Joseph Doekbrijder wrote on the site that they will offer the original product and hopefully devise a plan for future installments.
“We believe that there needs to be an Open Source, Cross-platform full-disk encryption option,” the men wrote.
TrueCrypt's decision to stop maintaining its software came as a surprise and was attributed to the end-of-support for Windows XP, an operation system that supported the software.
