The polls are open – cast your ballot for the 2008 SC Magazine Awards

It's time to vote for those information security products and services that matter to you on a daily basis.

Voting for the prestigious SC Magazine Awards 2008 is open.

We invite you to participate. Just visit www.scmagazine.com/awards to cast your ballot for one of the finalists in any of 20 Reader Trust categories, ranging from Best Anti-Malware to Best Wireless Security to Best Security Software Development solutions.

And like any election, the candidates want voters, not necessarily votes. Just ask some of our previous winners who have benefitted from strong support.

“Step one is getting people to get out and vote,” says Chris Simmons, director of product strategy at Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Fortinet, winner of last year's Best Integrated Security Solution and Best IDS/IPS Solution awards. “Step two is to try to demonstrate that you're the best as a vendor.”
Simmons, whose company also took home two prizes in 2006, says that by voting, end-users help lay out the product roadmap for the hundreds of IT security vendors, while validating where the market is heading in the near and distant future.

“We definitely like to promote anything that raises awareness in the security community and the industry as a whole,” he says. “These folks voting are our target audience.”

Previous winners agree that voting not only helps to separate the best solutions from the rest of the crop, but also provides feedback to the product developers.

And that audience has been vocal in making their choices known. Last year, over 9,000 readers cast their votes. In addition, a judging panel of 17 industry experts helped to choose the winners of the other categories: Excellence and Professional awards.

“It's a big morale booster,” says Alex Eckelberry, president and CEO of Clearwater, Fla.-based Sunbelt Software, winner of last year's Best Email Security Solution honor. “Enterprise products don't get a lot of awards. These guys never know what people think — except for the tech support traffic.
And the tech support traffic isn't always the nicest thing to read.”

Illena Armstrong, SC Magazine's editor-in-chief, says the awards program is a celebration of all the innovative companies, products, services and people driving this critical and vital industry.

“The overall awards program, its finalists and winners, represent the vibrancy and vitality of the information security space,” she says. “All of these honorees symbolize the tremendous strides being made everyday to safeguard organizations and the vast amounts of critical data upon which they rely.”
Remember, voting is open to everyone, but vendor employees cannot vote for themselves. If they do, that company runs the risk of being disqualified.
