Biggby Coffee announces website intrusion, access gained to database

Michigan-based Biggby Coffee announced that an intruder forced their way into its systems and accessed a database containing personal information.

How many victims? Undisclosed.

What type of personal information? Names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and information regarding employment history.

What happened? An intruder forced their way into Biggby Coffee's systems and accessed a database containing the personal information.

What was the response? The incident has been reported to law enforcement authorities. Security measures have been taken to prevent this type of incident from occurring in the future.

Details: The personal information was provided when registering for a Biggby Card, or is related to applications submitted for employment. Web developer and hosting company Traction notified Biggby Coffee of the incident a week before the notification was posted to the website, which was on April 3. At the time of posting, Biggby Coffee was not aware of any misuse of the information.

Quote: “Please note that the information accessed was information that was ONLY provided by customers via the biggby.com website,” according to the notification posted to the website. “Less than 20 [percent] of our customer data was accessed.”
