The spies, two high-ranking Russian security service agents, an employee of Russian internet security firm Kaspersky Lab, and a fourth man whose lawyer, Ivan Pavlov, would not name, are all believed to be cybersecurity experts, according to a report by CNN Money.
Charged with “treason in favor of the United States,” the arrested men were part of a counterintelligence raid targeting computer security professionals who once had ties to Russian government intel related to hacking operations.
The arrested government agents were once officials in the FSB, Russia’s top security agency formerly known as the KGB. Both the Kremlin and U.S. officials would not comment on the arrests.
