Cast of Game of Thrones, now with 2FA

May 11, 2017

To avoid leaking any plot twists, the cast of the popular HBO series Game of Thrones is now required to use two-factor authentication (2FA).

In March 2016, HBO programming president Michael Lombardo and showrunner David Benioff told Entertainment Weekly that the show, entering its sixth season at the time, had found it necessary to put extreme security measures in place to avoid leaks – fewer people got scripts and, for the first time, press stopped receiving screeners.

But as the show is set to unveil its seventh season on July 16, security precautions have been stepped up. In a recent interview with the U.K.'s Express, Nathalie Emmanuel, one of the show's stars, said scripts are now distributed digitally and won't be sent to cast members unless they initiate 2FA on their email accounts. They also are forbidden to print them out.
