The MessageLabs Anti-Virus Service was awarded the Central Sponsor for Information Assurance (CSIA) Claims Tested (CCT) mark - a U.K. government quality award initiative for information security products and services.
The award was announced by the head of the CSIA, Steve Marsh, speaking at the Infosecurity Europe event last week.
Marsh said: "Managed services are of particular interest to the public sector, especially in terms of data sharing within and between organizations. We are extremely pleased that this service has achieved the award that will help give assurance to the public sector that the information security products and services they use make the grade for the government's quality mark."
Another milestone is that the first product to be awarded the mark in September 2005, Connect Protect, has also been awarded the mark for the latest version of the product.
The purpose of the CCT award is to provide accredited independent testing on off-the-shelf products and services and thus give the wider public sector a basic level of assurance for the information security products and services they use.
Although primarily aimed at IT and information security managers across the wider public sector, it also intends to provide a guide to small and medium-businesses wanting to know that their purchasing meets preferred standards.
The scheme was officially launched in September 2005 by Jim Murphy, Cabinet Office minister with responsibility for e-government.
Speaking about the awards, Murphy said: "With the transformational government program underway, there will be many changes as we work towards providing a better service for our customers. This means it is more important than ever for the public sector to have confidence in the information security products and services they acquire."
Previous Award recipients of the CCT Mark include BeCrypt, SecureWave, AppSense and Reflex Magnetics.
