Obama to release Russian sanctions shortly

The Obama administration is close to announcing sanctions against Russia for interfering with the 2016 presidential election, the Washington Post reported.

An exact timetable was not released by the White House, but the action could take place as early as this week. An official told the Post the U.S. reaction will likely include a cyber component along with other unnamed covert actions.

The U.S. government has attributed the hacks of the Democratic National Committee and the email account of Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign chairman John Podesta to the Russian government.
