Microsoft developmental leaders to switch positions

When development work on Microsoft's next generation Vista operating system is complete, the software giant will place its security division under the company's Windows group.

The move is part of an ongoing reorganization coinciding with Vista's release, according to numerous media reports.

Ben Fathi, who succeeded Mike Nash as head of Microsoft's Security Technology Unit when Nash went on sabbatical in March, will lead the Windows Core System Team along with Darren Muir and Chick Chan, who are now in charge of testing and program management, respectively.

Fathi had previously worked as general manager for storage and high availability in the Windows group.

The Trustworthy Computing Team will be led by Scott Charney, and will have expanded duties to include security engineering, response, outreach and engineering excellence responsibilities.

Among the other changes announced to the Windows Team:

  • Wael Bahaa-El Din will lead the Windows Engineering System and Services team.
  • Jawad Khaki will lead the PC Hardware Team.
  • Richard ward will lead the Windows Core Architecture Team.

A Microsoft spokesman said the changes will expand extending the Core Operating Systems Division's original mission.

"Microsoft is embracing the future by extending COSD's original mission, designing a tighter connection to top strategic imperatives as well as streamlining the structure and processes to optimize the organization for greater flexibility," he said.
