The Indian Supreme Court Monday issued a notice to Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, and Facebook on a plea seeking to curb the sharing of videos displaying sexual assault and cybercrime.
Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice Uday Umesh Lalit sought responses from the enterprises by January 9 on in response to a non-governmental organization's plea seeking for the enterprises to have a defined place to report rape videos and take action to block them, according to Indo-Asian News Service.
The notice came following a hearing with the NGO known as Prajwala, which seeks to eradicate forced prostitution and sex trafficking. The NGO is calling for efforts to curb cybercrime concerning videos of sexual assault, which are often shared online.
Additionally, Solicitor General Maninder Singh told the court steps have already been taken by the court and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to curb cybercrime
