More than 1,700 alerted to breach of Oregon online retailer


More than 1,700 people who made purchases with online retailer Made In Oregon are being notified that their credit card information may have been compromised in a security breach.

How many victims? More than 1,700. 

What type of personal information? Credit card information.

What happened? There was unauthorized access to the website's credit card transaction system.

What was the response? Made In Oregon hired forensic technical consultants to investigate the breach. Reports have been filed with the FBI, Portland police and credit reporting companies. All affected individuals are being notified by mail. 

Details: Between mid-October and mid-November, a security breach may have led to unauthorized access to the website's credit card transaction system. Seven people reported that their credit cards were compromised after making purchases on the Made In Oregon website.

Quote: “In the 17 years we've had an online presence - since launching our website in 1997 - this is the first time we've ever been targeted by this kind of a security breach, and we're doing our all to make sure it's also the last time,” Verne Naito, vice president of Made In Oregon, said.
